In March 2012, LACIS co-sponsored (along with Vital Voices Global Partnership) a visit to Madison by Brazilian graffiti artist and women’s rights activist, Panmela Castro. During her visit to Madison she engaged in a community workshops with middle and high schoolers at the Goodman Community Center and Lodi Community High School. She also amazed folks with a live graffiti installation on the facade of Mother Fool’s Coffeehouse in Madison. You can read more about her activities in Madison here.
Ms. Castro was recently featured in a PBS Newshour interview which aimed at shedding light on the use of art to combat violence again women in Brazil.
