Nicholas J. Barnes, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Political Science at UW-Madison, was recently selected as this year’s Nabuco Award Recipient. The title of his paper is “The Amphetamine of the People: The Mística of the Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Terra.”
The award is given annually to the the best essay on Brazil (any field) by a University of Wisconsin-Madison student. Recipients receive a $1400 cash award and are invited to present their paper at a public reception*. This award competition is co-adminstered by LACIS and the Division of International Studies through the Brazil Initiative.
